There's a lot to celebrate this month from Native American heritage and National STEM Day to Thanksgiving. Statistics in Schools activities are a great way to commemorate these special occasions with students! Use them to explore things like the median age of the American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) population, characteristics of STEM-related jobs, states that raise the most turkeys, and more.

Did you know the AIAN population in the U.S. is around 7.1 million? Share our American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month Fun Facts handout with students to teach them more about this population group such as the number of AIAN-owned businesses and largest tribal groupings. Celebrating National STEM Day With Statistics

Are your students considering a STEM career? Recent census data show that STEM workers who majored in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field in college typically earned more: $101,100 vs. $87,600 annually. Have fun exploring other dynamic relationships between college majors and jobs with our new warm-up activity, From College to Jobs: Pathways in STEM. For this activity, students use an interactive data visualization tool to analyze demographic characteristics and educational attainment of STEM-related and non-STEM workers.
