Get ready to prep for Thanksgiving It's finally November which, for me and probably a lot of you, means it's time to start getting locked in for Thanksgiving. You're most likely set on roasting pans, Dutch ovens, and the like, but one easy, late-breaking upgrade you can make is to your prep surfaces. Having a good cutting board—big enough to accommodate all your onion and garlic chopping, resilient enough not to retain the odors from all that chopping—can make your kitchen prep immeasurably more comfortable. And there's about to be a lot of kitchen prep on the way.
The one question you have to answer for yourself is whether you want something purely utilitarian (which will cost little) or you want something you can bring out to the table and use as a show piece (which will cost you more). We've tested plenty of both and found the four below to be superior cutting surfaces. The EndGrain board, which I've been trying out for the last month, may be particularly good moving from the kitchen to the holiday table thanks to the deep channel that runs all the way around, which can catch all those juices and keep them off the tablecloth (the Brooklyn Butcherblocks board I've used for years and also presents beautifully). But the basic board from Oxo offers plenty in the way of comfortable cutting and easy cleanup all for less than $20.
