A birthday party!

Dogs deserve celebrations too

The Ultimate Sloppy Joes that you need in your life. https://dinnerthendessert.com/ultimate-sloppy-joes/

A few years ago, in the honored tradition of delusional parents everywhere who say to themselves "the kids will help with taking care of a dog!", we decided that our family just didn't feel complete. And we knew we wanted a dog (sorry, cat people, but you know that you cannot snuggle a cat). Then we had to choose what type of dog to get, and that was a whole other story. I have friends who have talked with their spouses about breed, yard space needed, and other dog things more than they talked about whether or not to have a kid! About 8 million conversations later, we finally landed on a golden retriever, and then we found the cutest puppy ever, and now two years later we can hardly remember life before she was around.

This year the kids were super excited to have a birthday party for our dear Shadow, so we made her some treats (we loosely followed this recipe) and we put on hats and we played frisbee with her outside for way longer than normal. I mean, turning two is basically the same as becoming a teenager in human years, so this is like her sweet sixteen birthday, right? I know, I know, we're kind of ridiculous, but we also like to find all the things that we can celebrate with the kids that they will remember. I'm hoping that looking back they will remember singing happy birthday to her and how they had to blow out her candles, and that way the times when I freaked out when they got slime stuck in their hair AGAIN fade away….

I also hope that this Shadow picture distracts you, my dear readers, from the slightly bad news that my cookbook is delayed :(. I am dealing with shipping issues that are beyond my control (I checked to see if there was a truck somewhere that I needed to find someone to drive. Truly.) Thanks for your patience with this delay; I promise that it will be worth the wait! Also, this means extra ordering time for you…?

Onto the links!

  • One of my kids has been asking me to make my Korean ground beef again; it is always nice when I can find meals they all ask for on repeat!

  • We've been lighting candles at dinner to make it "fancy", and everyone looks nice in candlelight! Thinking about these to up my tablescape game.

  • I found this book for my nephew and he loves it. Love great kids' books that make the kid AND the adult smile when reading.

  • Someone gave me a bag of these and now I cannot. stop. eating. them. Slightly spicy, satisfying, and just the little pick-me-up I need in my afternoon work slump!

  • To avoid listening to "Baby Shark" over and over, the kids and I are exploring radio from around the world. We have been able to travel all over, right from home ;)

  • Anyone out there with experience in wallpapering a bathroom? Is this something that someone with not a lot of DIY skills could manage?

  • My friend shared this song with me the other day and I know nothing about the band but I have it on repeat now.

  • Finally, this made me laugh.

Cheers, everyone! Hope this weekend has a frosty beverage with your name on it!
