Me and my wife are older and need to watch our sodium intake. And if you happen to have cardiovascular issues you have to be aware there is hidden salt in processed and refined foods. You know Jack Lalanne said if "If man made it, don't eat it."
This is good advice I live by. You know Jack almost lived to 100 so you have to believe he knew how to extend his life in a healthful way. But I don't eat animal products like he did. But then I haven't reached 100 yet.
So, recently I've been tricked. You can do this to yourself very easily. Because if you buy anything at the store that's in a package or bottle or whatever there are usually ingredients you may not want. For example, too much added sodium.
I didn't realize there was so much in my diet. For example, I splash on soy sauce and coconut aminos like it's going out of style. Not good because it adds up fast and you don't even realize it. I also used table salt on my air fried wedge potatoes.
I also found many things my wife shouldn't have like too much sodium in her cereal and in tomato sauce. It's also in the oat milk that doesn't have oil in it. You really have to pay attention to ingredients because you might think what you are eating is healthy, but you discover when you read the ingredient label it has one or two or more unhealthful ingredients.
Sodium adds up quickly. If you eat processed and refined food, you better read labels. For example, added salt in tomato sauce, cereal, high sodium content in soy sauce and the saltshaker.
Asians typically may overdo the soy sauce. They may be trim and relatively healthy and live longer than we Americans, yet some have strokes. I don't want to have a stroke. I have been overdoing sodium most my life. That's a long time and a hard habit to break. You just have to decide. For me, I knew it was my time to give up the soy sauce and the saltshaker and read all ingredient labels closely.
