More than two dozen regional airports in Georgia will receive more than $13 million in federal funding for upgrades.

The money will support over 30 improvement projects statewide.

Valdosta Regional will receive nearly $4 million, while metro Atlanta airports in DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett also secured sizable grants. You can see a full list of airports and grant awards here.

The Georgia Supreme Court upheld a state law that bans most people under 21 from carrying a handgun in public.

Under the law, anyone aged 18 to 20 years old can possess handguns on their property, in their car, at their business, or for hunting, fishing, and sport shooting. And those in that age group with military training can also carry a handgun in public.

In rejecting a legal challenge by Thomas Stephens, 20, of Lumpkin County, the court ruled that the prohibition on anyone else under 21 from carrying a handgun in public falls within the state’s authority to regulate firearms.

Stephens' attorney John Monroe, who argued the ban infringed on his client's rights, said he was disappointed but not surprised by the decision "because there's over a century of precedent that was against us."

The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation awarded $130,000 in grants to 15 historic sites statewide, including churches in Thomasville and Augusta and theaters and homes in Macon and Savannah.

The funding, which comes from the Callahan Incentive Grant and 1772 Foundation Grant programs, will support exterior repairs and security upgrades.

Separately, the group last week issued a statement warning that federal funding delays for 2025 and proposed cuts for 2026 could impact its future preservation spending.

Hello!

My name is Cole, and I'm the CEO here at The Georgia Flyover.

I've had plenty of jobs in my life. Before I found my way into several digital media roles, I had some dirty jobs—the kind that would make Mike Rowe proud. Flowback driver in the oilfield, drywall hauler, medical janitor, home flood restoration tech.

Without a doubt, my favorite job has been running The Georgia Flyover.

And not just because it doesn't rain indoors.

I grew up in Flyover Country, and I've felt keenly the way that traditional news media brands have left most of America behind. I believe in the mission of The Georgia Flyover: to deliver a free, top-notch news publication without the bias that's driven most of us away from mainstream media.

Every day, I get to come to work to help build something I believe in.

105,000 Georgians believe in The Flyover, too, and it's an honor to serve you every day.

If you appreciate what we deliver, would you support us directly?

We're an independent small business, and our advertisers don't completely cover the revenue that we depend on.

I would appreciate a donation. They allow us to keep building the product we believe in!
