If you spent most of your teens and 20s in bootcut jeans and a “going out top,” then you’re probably wondering right now what the heck to feed your family at the beach. Like I am! This has been something I’ve done a ton of trial and error on over the years. I always wanted a true “vacation,” but once I had kids and once our extended family kept growing, it became impossible to go out to eat every night. Now there is definitely a fine line between prepping and cooking a ton of food and just planning on ordering/going out - after all, you are on vacation! But if you do a larger family trip like we do, (ours includes almost ten little kids), or if you don’t want to spend a ton of money on take out, or if you just don’t love eating out every meal while away, I’m here for you! This is a fairly extensive list but I certainly don’t make or even plan to make things for every meal. It will differ based on your own preferences. For us, our preferred meal out is dinner. However, we might go out to lunch once or twice, and stay in for dinner that day. We might do breakfast out one day, but that’s about it. There are a few things I make at home and freeze then travel with (if we’re driving, of course) because it’s just easier to do it at home. I’m also not always sure what the vacation rental will have in terms of kitchen tools. And while there are a few things we take regardless (Eddie likes to take a blender, I always take a big lazy susan serving dish, the kids bento boxes, etc), I don’t want to haul a ton of ingredients and tools. Nor can I fit them in our car. Of course the below goes without saying: we always have tons of salty snacks, fruit, veggies, dip and bars on hand for our trips.
