Demonstrators around Texas participated in the nationwide "Hands Off!" protests against President Donald Trump and DOGE head Elon Musk on Saturday.

In Houston, more than 5,000 people gathered at City Hall, displaying signs with messages like "Democracy Is Not For Sale" and "Hands Off Our Healthcare and Courts." Protests were also held in the nearby towns of Conroe and The Woodlands.

Democratic lawmakers joined protesters at the Texas Capitol in Austin, where law enforcement estimated up to 7,000 people had gathered. "I feel like everyone's rights are being taken away," said one demonstrator.

Protesters also gathered in Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and El Paso. More than 600,000 people attended one of 1,200 similar protests across the country.

A second child died at a Lubbock hospital on Thursday after contracting measles, which has infected at least 481 people since the current outbreak began in West Texas in January.

The 8-year-old girl reportedly died from "measles pulmonary failure" at University Medical Center, according to a statement from the Department of State Health Services. The statement added that she "was not vaccinated and had no reported underlying conditions."

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited with the girl's family yesterday and said he is working with state and local health officials to address the outbreak. In a social media post, he said vaccination is the "most effective way to prevent the spread of measles."

The state's largest art festival is coming to Fort Worth this weekend. Spanning 18 downtown blocks, the 38th annual Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival will feature 219 artists from all over the country and offer multiple musical performances and dining options.

Selected from over 1,000 applicants, the participants will showcase $4 million worth of art in categories including ceramics, glass, jewelry, leather, painting, and photography. Melanie Summers, a Fort Worth artist who is legally blind, will exhibit pieces created using an ice cube, dye, and cloth.

More than 50 performances will be provided by a diverse lineup of bands over the four-day event. Five food courts will serve barbecue, Tex-Mex, gourmet burgers, and international cuisine.

Kids' activities will include creating nature journals, making leaf rubbings, and even flying drones. The event is free, but food and drinks must be purchased on-site.
