Three people were killed when a Cessna 310R crashed on a busy city street in Boca Raton Friday morning, erupting into a fireball.

Jared Scarpato, a student at a flight school who witnessed the crash, said, "There was something that was happening with the rudder. It sounded like a stuck rudder, and that's super, super dangerous."

One person in a car was injured, and the plane also pushed a car onto nearby train tracks, resulting in the track's closure. Drivers on a nearby overpass also expressed concerns that the overpass might collapse.

Another car narrowly missed hitting the plane. "I saw the plane fly low and ... (it) impacted right in front of my car and it crashed," driver Pablo Tafur said. "Got out of the car that was on fire, through the flames, and made it to safety."

Article Icon 1State Charges Trump Assassination Suspect

Ryan Routh, accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, will now face charges in Florida in addition to federal charges.

Florida officials said they had previously been blocked by former President Biden's Justice Department, but current Attorney General Pam Bondi gave approval for the state charges.

Routh is accused of plotting to kill Trump as he golfed at his West Palm Beach Golf Course. He fled after Secret Service officers opened fire.

Routh now faces state terrorism and attempted murder charges in Florida on top of the federal charges, to which he pled not guilty. He remains in jail on the federal charges.

Article Icon 1Hurricane Preparedness Bills Advance

A bill to advance hurricane preparedness is moving forward in the Florida House this week. The House Transportation & Economic Development Budget Subcommittee backed the measure.

The bill outlines local government duties for debris cleanup and establishes rules for handling election disruptions caused by hurricanes.

It also includes regulations for securing construction equipment to prevent incidents such as a crane that crashed into a St. Petersburg building during Hurricane Milton.

The Senate passed a bill as well on Thursday that requires communities to prepare in advance for permitting and managing potential debris.
