The Dallas Cowboys have named Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach, promoting him from his offensive coordinator role after multiple interviews this week.

Schottenheimer has held an offensive coordinator position in the NFL since 2006 and has been in Dallas for two years.

Initial reaction from the Cowboy fan base was not enthusiastic as the deal was taking shape, deeming it a safe pick for owner Jerry Jones who reportedly conducted the coaching search almost single-handedly.

The Cowboys also interviewed Seattle Seahawks assistant Leslie Frazier, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

Gov. Greg Abbott has requested an $11 billion reimbursement from the federal government for the cost of stepping up border security during the Biden administration, saying the former president "left Texas and the rest of America defenseless."

Abbott outlined his request in a letter to members of U.S. Congress on Thursday, arguing that the measures taken by the state to secure the border should have been covered by the federal government.

The costs incurred include $3 billion for wall construction and $6 billion for deploying the National Guard and law enforcement to the border.

Operation Lone Star, launched by Abbott in 2021, has reduced illegal immigration into Texas by 87% over the last four years.
