Article Icon 1Residents Divided Over Krampus Parade

Plans for a parade celebrating a character from German folklore have sparked opposition from some San Antonio residents.

Krampus is a mythical half-goat, half-demon figure who, according to tradition, sends misbehaving children to Hell during the holidays. The parade featuring Krampus is scheduled to march through the King William neighborhood in San Antonio this Thursday evening.

While organizers say the parade is simply an effort to celebrate German culture, other residents, such as Mark Lugo, pastor of San Antonio Impact Ministries, aren't too keen about it.

"We're saying that this fear-mongering is not allowed in this city. Krampus is not welcome in San Antonio," Lugo said.

Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is set to open next summer on 4,871 acres of former ranch land 75 miles west of Fort Worth. It will be the first new state park in Texas in 25 years.

The park was supposed to open in 2023 but was postponed due to construction delays. With 60 camping sites and 25 RV pads, the park will offer hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, paddling, bird watching, and stargazing to its expected 75,000 to 100,000 annual visitors.

Although Palo Pinto is relatively close to a major population center, it still has a "Wild West" feel, according to park superintendent James Adams. Deer, porcupines, and bobcats have been spotted within the park.

Article Icon 1The Top 100 Most Congested Roadways in Texas

A recent report from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute shows the top 100 most congested roadways in Texas. Unsurprisingly, highways in Dallas and Houston top the list, with a stretch of I-35 through downtown Austin coming in third.

Drivers spent 1,370,786 person-hours per mile on a 3.62-mile segment of I-610 in Houston this year, amounting to an annual economic cost of $125,922,628. A 1.44-mile stretch of Dallas' Central Expressway was second on the list, costing drivers 1,342,429 person-hours per mile and $47,816,081 in lost time and fuel.

Congestion on a 7.93-mile segment of I-35 through Austin has the highest annual economic cost, a whopping $197,166,266.

The report found that while the average driver's miles traveled increased by 7% in the last five years, delays actually decreased, saving those drivers an estimated $915 million in time and fuel.

Earlier in this issue, we mentioned our Frosted Flavored Nuts. But we didn't tell you why they're so addictive.  We make them in small batches in copper pots by hand the old-fashioned way with real butter and sugar. All the flavors are wonderful, but a few stand out because the flavoring is all-natural and special.

We use real cinnamon in our Cinnamon Pecans and Almonds.  Our Orange Pecans and Almonds will melt in your mouth with fresh bursting orange flavor from the oil of orange that we use. But, like our children, all are amazing and popular. It's just so hard to decide!
