Texas Democrats Stepping Down After Election

Texas Democratic Party chair Gilberto Hinojosa announced his resignation Friday after his party suffered "devastating defeats" in the election and amid backlash for blaming immigration and transgender issues for the results.

Hinojosa apologized for his comments Thursday, complying with demands from various Democratic groups in the state.

In his resignation statement, Hinojosa said, "Voters sent a clear message to our party," that Democrats need to address issues more important to them, such as the economy, and that it was time for the "next generation" to lead the party forward.

Monica Ramirez Alcántara, chairwoman for the Democratic Party for Bexar County, also announced her resignation this week.

IHOP-Applebee's Twin Restaurant Opening in Texas

There's a new restaurant mashup coming in the form of IHOP-Applebee's, and its first location will be outside San Antonio.

Renderings of the new "twin restaurant" show a shared entrance and kitchen, with the Applebee's side featuring a large bar with TVs.

Other dual-branded restaurants, like Taco Bell-KFC, are trying the concept as restaurant chains struggle to conserve costs across the country.

Both IHOP and Applebee's have experienced weakening sales this year.

List: Where People Move to Texas From

The world is moving to Texas! Nearly 900,000 people relocated to the Lone Star State in 2023, with 272,000 coming from a different country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

5.5 million non-citizens now call Texas home, up from 4.4 million in 2013 and making up 17.9% of the state's population.

Texas' foreign-born population growth mirrors that of the U.S., with foreign-born residents making up 14.3% of the national population compared to 13.1% a decade ago.

Over 600,000 people moved to Texas from a different state—100,000 from California.
