5 ways to increase your energy (without caffeine or supplements)

Hi reader,

Do you ever feel like you're the energizer bunny, except that you can't keep going and going because your batteries have died?

Me too, and you know what fixed that? Clean eating!

It sounds strange, but it's true. Once I added MORE nutrient-dense foods to my diet, I stopped feeling sluggish at 2pm. I slept better at night and woke up feeling rested. I'm already a morning person, and I get so much more done than I did before!

But also, eating real foods showed me the importance of taking care of myself.

When I take care of myself, I'm more able to take care of those around me.

  • I don't feel drained when my kids reply with "but Mom…" for the millionth time...
  • I don't feel irritated when my husband asks me where his keys are...
  • I don't feel burdened by laundry or dishes or cooking dinner…

… because I've made sure to take care of myself.

Here are a few simple ways to fuel yourself, so you have the energy to reach your goals:

  1. Drink more water. Add a glass right after morning coffee, and another before you sit to have lunch.
  2. Go to sleep at a time that allows you to get 7+ hours of sleep at night. (This may mean skipping your favorite shows at night.)
  3. Turn off all screens two hours before you go to sleep. (Including phones!)
  4. Take a B-complex vitamin and magnesium. Our body plows through both B vitamins and magnesium and most people don't eat enough of the foods that are rich in these. Our bodies don't store either mineral very well, so we have to replenish them daily.
  5. Eat more green vegetables. These help with digestion, and let's face it - good plumbing feels good!
  6. Avoid processed sugar. Sugar gives a small boost, but the crash leaves you worse off than you were before. Try going outside for a short 5-minute walk instead.
  7. Stretch or take a bath before going to bed.

I've focused on #1 and #2 in the past year, and I can really tell a difference!
