Hot Election Day Races in the Sunshine State

For the first time in over a decade, the Sunshine State is expected to lean in one direction—toward former President Donald Trump. Still, the direction of key voting blocs and two proposed constitutional amendments could make Election Day results unpredictable.

Amendment 3, which would legalize adult recreational marijuana, and Amendment 4, which would overturn the state’s six-week abortion ban, are likely to gain majority support but need 60% approval to pass.

Additionally, half a dozen school board candidates endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis are up for election, including Stacy Geier, who faces Katie Blaxberg in a Pinellas runoff.

Florida’s CEOs Look to Fortify the State

A group of the state's leading CEOs wants to ensure Floridians are prepared to weather inevitable economic storms, so they’ve devised a development strategy to help fortify the state.

The Florida Council of 100 has identified key industries in specific regions that will foster higher-wage and resilient jobs. By focusing on these key industries, the council estimates Florida could add 200,000 new jobs by 2030, contributing nearly $100 billion in added GDP.

In each region, there are “foundational” clusters, vital to the economy but that don’t necessarily generate high-wage jobs; regional “best bets,” targeting industry clusters to drive the economy; and “emerging clusters,” which are promising but not fully mature.

Jacksonville Pays Big for Florida-Georgia Game

Jacksonville announced the annual Florida-Georgia football game will return to the city for four years beginning in 2028, following renovations to EverBank Stadium.

The city will pay the University of Florida and the University of Georgia $10 million each for the games in 2028 and 2029, increasing to $10.5 million each in 2030 and 2031.

Jacksonville will also pay each school $1.5 million for the 2026 and 2027 games, which will be held in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, respectively.
