Growth as a business is such an interesting process, as so many of you know. Funny thing happened recently where for the first time in my blogging career, I asked someone else to take food photos for me, from their own kitchen (or wherever) and not my own. Results? Um, no. The pix were such a miss that I re-shot everything myself and chalked it up to a learning experience. Want to know which recipe? The pumpkin bars. A picture is worth many more than a thousand words, and also helps us decide if we want to actually make something. Even though that new post has had lots of visitors already, and the recipe is spot-on!, here's to hoping my own shots give you a better feel for how lush this cake really is and invite you to say yes, I'm baking these asap!
My menu this week focuses on baked kibbeh, mainly because I'm making kibbeh, casserole-style of this meat+bulgur+spices goodness, and freezing for Thanksgiving. We do have both American turkey-trimming favorites AND Lebanese American favorites on the buffet for our food-loving family that day. But making the kibbeh in advance reminds me that it can be a fantastic weeknight meal too, so as long as I'm making, I'll make a couple and remember we can eat kibbeh for dinner some lucky night this week.
The menu for kibbeh and its own trimmings is below. It can be served wrapped up in pita too, but on the table it's so good with a salad and smooth hummus on the side.
Thank you for being as excited as I am about our EVOO squeeze bottles of Lebanese olive oil! The Holiday Shop is very much open--please take a look all over the shop so you can get your pantry ready for all of the cooking, plus gifts that will take you from treating your hosts to neat goodies for under the tree. Our new boxes are adorable for the Hummus Kit and sets, plus the holiday HABIBI ORNAMENT is already headed out in the mail to many, many of you! Shukrun! Thank you!
Bless your hands,
Baked Kibbeh.
Make a "dough" of finely ground lean beef or lamb mixed with fine bulgur + spices. Layer with another savory cooked meat and onion mixture studded with pine nuts. The results are so savory good!
Just look at that! Creamy (but no cream), light, luscious. I don't think anyone has often used "luscious" and "hummus" in the same sentence, but here you go. Healthy still fits too. Ingredients like these matter.
Gotta have it with kibbeh! This salad that includes sumac, dried mint, and pomegranate molasses to flavor crisp romaine, radish, red onion, and the defining factor: pita chips. My mouth waters just writing about it! Remember this for your Thanksgiving menu too. It's a fit with turkey and everything else.
