The Public Utility Commission received nearly 15,000 complaints regarding CenterPoint’s performance during the crisis. | Early Morning Alert Prompts FCC Complaints Neary 4,000 Texans filed complaints with the FCC after being woken by a Blue Alert from the Texas Department of Public Safety at around 4:53 a.m. last Friday. The alert became a viral topic on social media as people expressed frustration about the early morning alert, sent to notify people that a police chief had been shot in the Panhandle town of Memphis. The complaints discussed how to disable such alerts in the future. DPS said that Blue Alerts, which have been in use since 2008, “are designed to speed up the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously wound law enforcement officers.” The alleged shooter, Seth Altman, is still on the loose, and the state is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his capture. The police chief is hospitalized and in stable condition. | UT Tower To Be Restored The University of Texas at Austin's iconic Tower will undergo a major restoration starting next month, marking the first significant investment into the structure since it was completed in 1937. The $70 million restoration, approved by the Board of Regents this past February, will include comprehensive updates to the Tower's exterior, including refurbishing stonework, replacing windows, adding LED lighting, and reapplying gilding to the clock. The restoration is expected to last through the summer of 2027, with scaffolding beginning to cover the Tower after the 2025 commencement. Despite the construction, the Tower will remain operational and continue to be illuminated for celebrations. The Flyover is just like The Texas Flyover, except it covers news from all fifty states.
