In 2023 Bulgarian dairy farming stabilized with a growth in milk deliveries. This was due to improved milk yields despite continued decline in the dairy cow herd, and due to record high fluid milk imports. Consolidation and restructuring of the dairy industry have continued with an increasing and dominating role by larger, more efficient dairy operations. Food inflation began to soften in the middle of 2023 and, along with improving consumer incomes, have supported demand. Current FAS/Sofia expectations are that the dairy industry should strengthen with a rebound in milk production in 2024 due to continued investments in farm efficiency, improved feed availability, reduced inflation, and more dynamic demand by the retail and hospitality industries.
China's MY 2024/25 sugar production is forecast at 10.4 MMT as the planted areas for both cane and beet are expected to rise. Given sugar prices are expected to trend down, China's MY 2024/25 sugar consumption estimate is also forecast to increase to 15.7 MMT. The estimate for China's MY 2023/24 sugar production is revised downward to 9.9 MMT due to low sugar content in cane grown in Guangxi.

While imports currently occupy only 15 percent of shelf space, U.S. products account for more than 20 percent of that share. The reputation of the United States as a trusted supplier, coupled with its diverse product range, gives U.S. exporters a significant edge in this attractive market.
This report is an annual update of Venezuela's agricultural product import standards and enforcement mechanisms for U.S. exporters of agricultural commodities, foods, and beverages. Despite political uncertainty, Venezuela remains a promising market for U.S. agricultural exports. In 2023, exports of U.S. agricultural products to Venezuela totaled $675 million, and the United States was the second largest supplier of agricultural and food products by volume with a 29 percent market share. U.S. sanctions exempt transactions related to the export of agricultural and food products and do not prevent export certificate issuance by the USDA.
