6 Ways to Make Dinner Even When You’re Overwhelmed

Hi reader,

Do you ever feel like you're doing all the things and your list keeps growing and you don't know where to start so you just want to quit and not do any of it?

Me too.

And in case you think not wanting to do anything makes you lazy, it doesn't. It simply means you're overwhelmed.

This happens to everyone at some point in time, and there's only one way to overcome it: do less.

One way or another, you need to NOT be the person responsible for everything on that list.

  • Maybe you delegate laundry to a child.
  • Maybe you skip making the bed today.
  • Maybe you hire someone to scrub the tubs and toilets.

There's no right or wrong way to approach it, but you must keep this in mind: no matter how overwhelmed you are, you and your family still have to eat.

While we're still in the midst of the holiday season, the majority of the stressful days and events have come and gone. I hope that high levels of overwhelm have come and gone as well.

Now, when you're NOT overwhelmed, is a great time to make plans for the next time you ARE overwhelmed.

When you have too much going on, you might not make the best decisions for your real food journey. Take-out will sound really good.
Pizza delivery will sound really good. ANYTHING that doesn't require you to stand in the kitchen and cook more food will sound really good!

Here are a couple of ideas to help get your wheels turning:

  • Make a pantry meal.
  • Make a slow cooker meal (knowing you have a busy day ahead).
  • Pull out a freezer meal.
  • Make dinner YOYO - you're on your own.
  • Declare tonight a "leftover" night or a "fend for yourself" night or a "snacky dinner" night.
  • Or even simply take the night off and choose a healthy restaurant.

Real Food Reboot starts this Monday. It's a free 10-day challenge showing you how easy it is to ditch processed food and take baby steps towards clean eating AND how to do it while saving money at the same time. We run this just once a year, and it's just in time for your new year goals!

I want to hear how you keep real food on the table, even when you're overwhelmed.
