| The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and The Queen Consort is just a few days away and this Teacher Bulletin pulls together a range of opportunities for schools and pupils to get involved and celebrate this historic moment. Coronation learning materials We asked sector experts to produce a series of Coronation learning materials, designed to help pupils gain a deeper understanding of this significant historical event. Through the resources, you will be able to engage children in the background and context of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort's Coronation and teach them about the key figures and items that play a crucial part in the ceremony. The primary school resources include a PowerPoint lesson plan, detailed notes for teachers and adaptable activities for different year groups. The pack of secondary school resources, developed by Robert Peel, includes a starter quiz, fact sheet and worksheets. Coronation film for primary schools The Department for Culture Media and Sport has commissioned a short film (approx. 10 minutes) for primary school-aged children explaining the history and significance of the Coronation. Freely available to all schools in the UK for use in lessons, assemblies and school events, the film 'Inside the Coronation' is available to download from the Coronation website. Wildflower seeds for primary schools We've joined forces with the Eden Project to offer all state funded primary schools packets of wildflower seeds to celebrate His Majesty The King's commitment to fighting climate change. The Eden Project has produced a series of resources and a video on pollination, to help you make the most of the seeds in your school. Resources for blind and visually impaired children Living Paintings charity have provided free sensory Coronation gifts for blind and visually impaired children and young people, to help them experience the Coronation through touch and sound. Their gift includes tactile-audio resources of key elements of the Coronation such as the St Edward's Crown, as well as the profile portrait of His Majesty King Charles III that will become the iconic image of his reign. Downloadable materials in the Coronation toolkit On the Coronation website you'll find the Coronation toolkit - a range of downloadable materials to help with your Coronation celebrations, including homemade bunting templates, recipe inspiration and fun activities such as word searches and colouring pages. The Coronation Creative Challenge is also live - from making bunting to designing a royal invitation, there are lots of ways to get involved and showcase how you or your school are getting creative, for a feature on the Coronation website. To enter the challenge, share your photos by tagging DCMS on social media (Twitter, Facebook or Instagram) or submit via email to coronation@dcms.gov.uk with the subject line 'Coronation Creative Challenge'. |
