Here's today's Tip/Kitchen Hack: Iced tea is yum. Period. Flavour it with peach, lemon, berries or even some alcohol ๐ it's always perfect! I'm going to share the best way to make iced tea - strong in flavour and aroma! But fair warning, this method takes a lot more time, hours in fact, but the results are worth it! The trick is to cold brew it! I'll explain why it works. When the tea leaves are exposed to hot water or milk, they bloom and release the flavour, colour and aroma. However, if it's not made right, it can cause the tea to release the tannic bitter flavours when exposed to a lot of heat. The alternative to this is the cold brew method, this takes place in the fridge. In the absence of heat, the tea leaves steep in cold water for a long duration, beautifully releasing all the wonderful flavours without any bitterness. It makes a smoother and sweeter tasting tea ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ Here's how you can make it at home:
The measurement is 1.5 Teaspoons of tea leaves or 1 Tea Bag per cup of water (250ml). This is adequate for 1 serving. You can increase the amount of tea based on your preference. Pour water into a glass bottle or jug and add the tea bags or loose lea to it. Keep it covered in the refrigerator for upto 6 hours or overnight. Remove the tea bags or strain the loose tea leaves from the jug. Serve it over ice or consume cold! Optional: you can add in sweeteners like honey, sugar or maple syrup. You can also add berries, lemon slices, mint leaves etc., for extra flavour. Remember not to let the tea sit in the jug for longer, this will cause it to become bitter. |
