Attention Section 21 Members and Applicants, Case Managers, and others supporting Section 21 Members and Applicants

Section 21 Members and Section 50 Members recently received a letter regarding the Request for Exceptions process, which can be found at MaineCare Benefits Manual, Ch. II, Section 21.14: https://www.maine.gov/sos/cec/rules/10/ch101.htm

The Request for Exceptions process is currently available to Section 21 members and those applying for Section 21 services. The Request for Exceptions process can allow services in excess of monetary or unit limits in Section 21, when needed and approved.

The Department of Health and Human Services has posted a training for case managers and others on the new Requests for Exceptions process, as well as the application form. They can be found under "Waiver Protocols for Developmental Disability Services Case Managers" and "Waiver Forms for Developmental Disability Case Managers" at the following link: https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/oads/providers/adults-with-intellectual-disability-and-autism

Please email HCBSwaiverexceptions.DHHS@maine.gov with any questions about Requests for Exceptions in Section 21.
