Mississippi Public Health Update March 29, 2022 Preventing Colorectal Cancer Cancer of the colon or rectum is the second-leading cause of cancer death. Yet colorectal cancer is highly preventable if you: Keep a healthy lifestyle by staying active and eating right. Get screened for early signs of colorectal cancer if you are 45 or older (usually every 10 years). I underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatment January through February 2019, had a tumor removed in April 2019, and had to use a temporary ostomy bag.
