| February 10, 2022 No. 71 Our newest family weekend tradition is breakfast in bed. We play some music (the Sing soundtrack specifically), get out the T.V. trays, and veg in our jammies. Do you have a weekend tradition? — Thao
On Valentine's Day, we opt out of the obligatory chocolates and roses and share something we can enjoy as a family: cheese! For the past six years, we've kept the tradition of feasting on a bubbling crock of cheese fondue as our way of observing the holiday on our terms. Over the years, we've tried different combinations of cheese (the classic Swiss fondue is still our favorite) and have, importantly, added a chocolate fondue for dessert. Frankly, I'm not sure how we made it through those first couple of years without it. Here's how it's done: cubby ❤️ Our family is loving "Rise Up, Sing Out," the brilliant new Disney series of shorts dedicated to educating kids about antiracism and celebrating difference through songs and storytelling. cubby finds: hearts in our eyes ask maxwell I love Valentine's Day because it is all about love and romance for my husband and me, but what can I do with my children? — Luciel Dear Luciel,
I am glad that you find Valentine's Day loving and romantic! So many get overwhelmed by the commercial messaging that it can dampen the spirits, but I'm with YOU! It's an odd "Hallmark" holiday and one that you really can make anything you want, so why not make it great? Maxwell Ryan is a father and was an elementary school teacher in NYC before founding Apartment Therapy. He'd love to answer your question: askmaxwell@cubbyathome.com
