The National Security and Investment Act 2021 – new guidance published The new system of investment screening brought in by the National Security and Investment Act (NSI) will come into force on 4 January 2022. Guidance published this week is designed to help parties to: - assess whether an acquisition must be notified to the government because it falls within one of the 17 mandatory areas of the economy
- understand what to expect when they submit a notification form and go through the NSI notification and assessment process. This is a substantial update to the existing NSI guidance
Businesses can contact the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) using via email at investment.screening@beis.gov.uk if they have any queries ahead of commencement. To help SMEs learn about the new rules, BEIS will be running a session targeted specifically at SMEs on NSI. The new rules have no lower limit on the size of businesses they cover, so any business could be affected by the new rules. This session will be important ahead of the new rules coming into force. The date of the session will be confirmed publicly soon, or email investment.screeening@beis.gov.uk for more information. Coronavirus (COVID-19) response: autumn and winter plan 2021 People are at higher risk of catching or passing on COVID-19 in crowded and enclosed spaces, where there are more people who might be infectious and where there is limited fresh air. Businesses should continue to ensure they have adequate ventilation and people should wear face coverings if in crowded or enclosed spaces. The guidance also recommends that people take a rapid lateral flow test before attending any higher risk spaces to give piece of mind that they are unlikely to be infectious. As workplaces start to draw up plans for Christmas parties, employers may therefore wish to encourage staff to take a test before any activities to reduce the risk of people spreading the virus without knowing it. Read updated guidance to remind yourself of the actions you can take to help reduce the spread of coronavirus and help reduce the pressure on the NHS over the winter months.
