Foster Parents in Their Own Words November is Adoption Awareness Month, and we're celebrating today by answering some important questions about adoption and its connection to foster care. We'll also share some Adoption Awareness Month highlights and ways you can get involved this month! Let's start off by answering some frequently asked questions: Does fostering lead to adoption? Fostering is not a pathway to adoption. The goal of foster care is reunification whenever possible, but fostering is often the first step to adopting. What does it take to foster or adopt? Whether you're interested in fostering or adopting, the basic requirements to do so are very similar: providing love and a stable home. If you have questions about your eligibility to foster, please contact a Foster Care Navigator. What resources are available to learn more about adoption? You can always visit the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) website for more information. As part of Adoption Awareness Month, MARE is also including features of adoptive families and children waiting for adoption. Here are just a few of the many features you can follow along with this month. Meet the Holben family: "She felt she had plenty of love, dedication, knowledge, training and support to offer these boys a forever adoptive family. As a single parent, Martha has gone above and beyond for her adopted sons." See more family features on MARE's website. | Meet Ardez: Ardez is a thinker and tinkerer who's interested in robotics and says he wants to become a robotics engineer. "He wants to be able to make robots for people to help with their disability," says one of the adults close to him. Ardez's other interests include drawing anime and playing video games. When he's asked about his future forever family, Ardez says he wants one who'll play video games and football and go shopping, swimming and bowling and to the movies and arcade together. Learn more about Ardez and other children waiting for adoption on MARE's website. | We hope you'll celebrate with us by following and sharing MARE's Adoption Awareness Month features on Facebook or visiting their website to learn more! |
