Read Nadhim Zahawi's full letter. COVID-19 support Vaccines for young people The COVID-19 vaccine is now available to young people aged 12 and above. For healthy 12-15 year olds, the vaccine will primarily be delivered in school by the local school age immunisation service. Testing resources Twice weekly rapid COVID-19 testing remains a vital tool in keeping the virus under control. Our contingency framework is also available outlining the principles for managing a number of positive COVID-19 cases in education settings. Remote education guidance and resources Our get help with remote education page contains many resources to support students who are learning remotely, including good practice guides, training and access to funding and technology for those who need it. Support for parents Further resources to help you support parents are available including the return to school parent FAQ leaflets and government guidance on what parents and carers need to know about attending schools and colleges in 2021. Training and development support Reformed National Professional Qualifications From November 2021, a reformed suite of National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) will be available to teachers and leaders who want to develop their knowledge and skills in school leadership and specialist areas of teaching practice. Flexible working training for senior leaders Register now for free virtual training on implementing flexible working in your school. Sessions are available for headteachers, governors/trustees and school business professionals, starting from 4 October. Removing barriers to learning: insight from Opportunity Areas The government's Opportunity Area programme is working to transform life chances of children and young people in low social mobility areas, and frequently shares findings with the wider sector. Register for a webinar on October 14 to hear from those working hard to remove health barriers to learning. Support for students Mental health The latest toolkits from the Anna Freud Centre's Mentally Healthy Schools website includes free self-care resources for primary pupils, secondary and FE students, and education staff. Our Youth Mental Health Ambassador, Dr Alex George, has created a series of wellbeing videos What's on your mind? to help your students better understand how to look after their mental health and wellbeing. Other mental health resources for supporting all ages: National School Breakfast Programme We're pleased to announce the continuation of our Free School Breakfast Programme. Eligible schools can sign up now. The programme will provide schools with up to two terms of healthy free food from September 2021 to March 2022, followed by up to four terms of subsidised food. Schools will be asked to contribute just 25% towards the supply and delivery of breakfast food from April 2022 to July 2023.
