PEROSH joint research program webinar 24 September Opening keynote by HSE's Head of Science Quality and Impact, Dr Mary Trainor Register and view the PEROSH programme Construction workers across the UK have played a vital role in keeping the country running during the pandemic. The report on Keeping the UK Building Safely describes a scoping study aimed at improving understanding of the construction sector's efforts to build a COVID-secure workplace. The study was carried out by researchers from the Thomas Ashton Institute, a scientific collaboration between the University of Manchester and HSE. The researchers carried out a rapid review of previous studies investigating transmission, a questionnaire survey and interviews with four principal contractor organisations and interviews with representatives from HSE's Construction Division and the Unite Union. The researchers identify key themes in the industry's response to reducing COVID-19 transmission and give three case studies of construction sites. The work was carried out as part of the PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study on COVID-19 transmission and environment, a UK-wide research programme led by HSE's Chief Scientific Adviser. | One of our latest publications is on work collaborating with Leeds University on evaluation of the Fire Dynamics Simulator. Fire is the most commonly occurring major accident hazard in the chemical and process industries, with industry accident statistics highlighting the liquid pool fire as the most frequent fire event. Read the publication 'Evaluation of CFD simulations of transient pool fire burning rates'. It is HSE policy to make the results of research available, wherever possible.
