Matcha > Coffee 💚

Hi There,

Groggy mornings. Afternoon sugar cravings. Erratic energy. Hormonal imbalance. Restless nights.

When I was seeing nutrition clients, I heard the refrain over and over again. Many of my clients would start the day off with coffee, have a late breakfast (if at all), and then their energy would crash by the afternoon when they needed another caffeine boost (or sugar hit) to make it through the rest of the day.  Their nights were late, with disrupted sleep.

It was a vicious cycle that left them feeling tired, jittery, and completely out of balance.

And while regular, nourishing meals and gentle movement can make a huge difference, cutting out coffee is probably the biggest step you can take in optimizing your energy levels.

You can go cold-turkey (of course), but that's a jolt to your stress-response system, and you might yourself suffering from withdrawal headaches.

Another option is to swap coffee for a gentler drink. I favor green tea in the morning.  Tea contains similar compounds as coffee, but is generally less intense.

Here's why you should give it a try:

  • Green tea supports relaxed focus. That's because it contains the amino acid L-theanine which supports mental clarity and gives you a sense of relaxed focus (without the intense jolt of coffee).
  • It's rich in polyphenols.  Polyphenols are nourishing plant compounds that support cellular and microbiome health. While coffee also has abundant polyphenols, green teas such as matcha tend to be a much richer source.
  • It offers a gentler energy boost.  While both tea and coffee contain caffeine, green teas tend to have less caffeine than coffee. Furthermore, it's balanced by other micronutrients that help provide a gentler, sustained boost of energy rather than the immediate jolt (and letdown) that coffee offers.

I buy my matcha from Pique Tea. It's organic, shade-grown (which increases its L-theanine and antioxidant content) and quadruple-screened for toxins such as heavy metals and pesticides.

If you want to give it a shot, they put together a whole bundle of goodies to get you started: matcha, frother, and book.

And I worked with them to get you a coupon.  Just follow this referral link or enter the coupon NOURISHED at checkout.

P.S. They have loads of other teas, too. In addition to their matcha, I'm a big fan of their passionfruit green. 💚
