The photo above is a simplified Jesa table put together by my mother-in-law, just to give you an idea of how it looks!
Other traditions for Chuseok include gift-giving and making Songpyeon μ‘νΈ (rice cakes). Markets are very busy during this time and full of gift sets with expensive and high-quality cuts of meat, dried fish, fresh fruits, snacks and even SPAM because - you know, Koreans love Spam!! π
Songpyeon μ‘νΈ is a special traditional rice cake that is always enjoyed during this holiday and made with various fillings such as sweet mung beans, chestnuts, beans or crushed sesame seeds mixed with honey!
These are steamed on a bed of pine needles which not only give them a wonderful aroma, but it's believed to transfer "chi" to the one that consumes it and make them strong and healthy just like a pine tree.
Fall is also the best time for fresh, quality seafood, so I've included some of my favorite seafood recipes below!
Have a Happy Chuseok everyone and take care!
XOXO π
