This week's edition contains links to our guidance on protecting people from the health risks of working with display screen equipment. We also highlight a need for improved farm safety, following a series of fatal incidents. For all the latest health and safety updates visit our website. | | | All employers must protect workers from the health risks of working with display screen equipment (DSE). Our guidance features a step-by-step guide to working safely with DSE and covers a range of topics, from workstations and assessments to eyesight testing. Incorrect use of DSE or poorly designed workstations or work environments can lead to pain in necks, shoulders, backs, arms, wrists and hands as well as fatigue and eye strain. We also have guidance on what you and your workers need to know about working with DSE from home. | A furniture manufacturer has been fined £100,000 after a delivery driver sustained serious leg injuries when he was struck by a reversing lorry in a yard. An investigation by HSE found that controls in the yard were inadequate. There was no segregation between vehicles and pedestrians to prevent this type of incident occurring. Read this press release for more details. Other recent enforcement news includes: HSE has been notified of four fatalities on farms in just over a fortnight. These include the death of a three-year-old boy and a suspected cattle-trampling involving a member of the public. The incidents come just three weeks after HSE issued its 'Fatal injuries in agriculture, forestry and fishing in Great Britain 2020/21' report, which highlighted the high fatality rate in the industry.
