Hi reader,
Based on the flood of replies in my inbox, I'm not the only one who makes things harder than they need to be.
In fact, one of you said (and I quote):
I've been trying to meal plan for ages, but I always make it too complicated. I'd love to learn ways to make it simple without feeling like we're having the same meals all the time.
And someone else said:
Meal planning became too 'hard', time consuming, too many decisions to make....I'd like to learn how to make it more streamlined!
YOU GUYS.
I can't tell you how NORMAL you all have made me feel, LOL!!
So, I wanted to share with you the second secret that has made meal planning easier for me over the years. Because no matter how simple you try to keep your meals (secret #1), if you don't do this, you'll never feel like you've mastered meal planning.
The second secret is: you have to make the time to meal plan.
I know how this sounds. Meal planning is supposed to SAVE time, yet now you have to SPEND time to do it?
Well… yes. But hear me out.
I'm not talking about a lot of time here. You absolutely DO NOT need to spend hours upon hours making your meal plan each week.
In fact, a simple and straightforward meal plan that's easy to follow can be made in about 10-15 minutes.
The next logical question though, is how exactly do you "make time" to meal plan?
- Do you just sit down whenever you want and write down whatever sounds good?
- Do you have to make the plan in the middle of the week, when a new grocery sale starts?
- Do you need to get a sitter so you can actually think quietly (and uninterrupted) for a change?
The answer is "it depends" and "it doesn't really matter."
- It doesn't matter when you sit down, or if you sit down at all.
- It doesn't matter if you're standing at the counter, jotting down ideas with a baby on the hip and a toddler on your leg.
- It doesn't matter if you sneak away to the bathroom and make your meal plan in two minute intervals.
What DOES matter though, is that you:
- Make meal planning a priority. Treat it like an appointment and write it on your calendar. Plan your day around this time, set an alarm on your phone, and don't let "life" steal that time away from you.
- Make meal planning a routine. Whenever you meal plan, aim to do it at the same time on the same day. During commercials of your favorite show, perhaps?
- Make meal planning fun. Pour a glass of wine or share your ideas with a friend over the phone or treat yourself to a hot bath when you're done.
That's it.
It's not available just yet, but we cover meal planning routines and how to stick with them in Meal Planning Bootcamp. It's a simple and straight-forward meal planning system that teaches you how to master meal planning (and stick with it!) in five simple steps.
Yep - 5 simple steps. That's it!
And after a practice round or two, those five steps will take you just 15 minutes each week.
Sounds pretty amazing, right?
- save hundreds of dollars
- save hours of time
- save loads of stress…
… in just 15 minutes?
It's totally possible, and you could dive head first into meal planning with just the first two secrets I've shared this week.
You'll do well, but you and I both know that there's so much more to meal planning than keeping it simple and making it
a routine.
Secret #3 though? THAT will seal the deal.
There's one issue that EVERY meal planner struggles with, and knowing how to overcome it will make you feel like a meal planning master.
Does any of this make sense to you? Hit "reply" and tell me if you want to know the third secret. It's a game changer! ;)
♥ Tiffany
PS - Hidden in the replies I got this week was a question I `actually get ALL THE TIME. "What's the best way to use up leftovers? Don't worry - I'll share secret #3 soon!
