Hi reader, Happy almost September! It's hard to believe that a new month is around the corner, but the start of September welcomes exciting seasonal flavors. I'm working on a few new baking recipes! I also plan to share a post with fun kitchen projects that the whole family can take part in. Stay tuned for that. But first, let's take a look at some of August's highlights. Reader Favorite Recipe from August
This brand new recipe skyrocketed to the top of our most popular posts this month and it's not hard to see why. They're the perfect choice if you need a fun & crowd-pleasing brownie recipe! One reader said: "I saw this recipe in a morning email and immediately knew I'd be making it that night. Love the flavor combo of rich chocolate and coconut. Definitely use the coconut extract if you've got it otherwise the chocolate flavor will overpower the cheesecake batter. Also pay attention when Sally says to GENTLY swirl the batters together! I overmixed them. While still delicious, I feel like the brownies are better when you bite into a big chunk of cheesecake at once, instead of thinly spread throughout. Darn, guess I'll have to make these again real soon! ★★★★★" - Megan Recipes Published in AugustI published some new recipes this month! The S'mores Cookie Bar recipe was an older recipe that I knew could use some improvements and fresh new photos. (You can click here to receive email updates whenever a new recipe is published. I have about 5-6 recipes coming in September!) August Baking Challenge UpdateThe August Sally's Baking Challenge recipe is Ice Cream Loaf Cake and there are five more days left to participate. See details here. I publish a new challenge recipe every month on the 1st. Participating is completely optional and just something exciting to add to your month! The September Sally's Baking Challenge recipe will be published on Wednesday. About the Ice Cream Loaf Cake, 2 participants said: "I had such a good time making this cake for the August challenge! Putting the cake together was super easy! The directions were spot-on, too! Thanks for including the how-to video. I will make this next time I'm entertaining! ★★★★★" - Amy "I had a blast making this recipe. I've never made an ice cream cake before, but ice cream is one of my favorite things EVER so this was my dream baking challenge recipe. The video made it so easy to follow, and it ended up being really tasty!! I used a caramel swirl ice cream and it was perfect. Thanks Sally and team! ★★★★★" - Grace Here's What You've Been BakingMy team and I love seeing my recipes in your kitchen. (Many readers share recipe photos on our Facebook page & in our Facebook group.)
And Here's What I've Been BakingWhole Wheat Banana Walnut Muffins. I originally published this recipe a few years ago and have made them dozens of times since. My whole family LOVES them. I switched up the leaveners so the muffins are a little fluffier, rise taller, and no longer have a bitter aftertaste. I also add more milk which thins out the batter so the muffins don't taste as dense. The updated printable recipe reflects these small changes. You will love these wholesome muffins even more now! Spotlight Recipe Review 🎉
"Perfect cookie and such a nice change from a chocolate chip or oatmeal, and the M&Ms give it a "I'm a happy cookie" look. Even though I've made thousands of cookies in my 70 years, I still read your cookie tips and paid particular attention to the butter. I've had 100% success with every recipe I've made from your collection. ★★★★★" - Shirley Looking Ahead to September
