Mississippi COVID-19 Update August 10 - August 16, 2021 Treatment MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY (MAB) TREATMENT Free screening and treatment with monoclonal antibodies (mAb) is now available through the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for qualifying individuals with COVID-19. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, have mild to moderate illness, or may be at high risk for developing serious illness, you may qualify for this free treatment to prevent severe COVID-19 -- no doctor visit needed beforehand. See whether you qualify and make an appointment at https://covidmabtreatment.umc.edu Vaccinations More than 1,088,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Vaccination is very effective at preventing COVID-19 illness, hospitalization and death. Vaccination benefits you even if you have already had COVID-19. Most COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are now among unvaccinated Mississippians. Note: Our report only includes schools who have submitted data for this week. COVID-19 in K-12 Schools Long-Term Care Facilities Current active outbreaks: 172 An outbreak is considered any confirmed COVID-19 case among LTC facility residents or employees. Hospitalizations Mississippi hospitalizations for COVID-19 remain at an all-time high. Patients currently hospitalized for confirmed COVID-19: 1,623 Patients currently in intensive care for confirmed COVID-19: 447 COVID-19 Hospitalizations by Date State Trend Cases by Date of Illness This chart tracks COVID-19 cases according to the date the person first became ill, rather than the date of test results. It's the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change. Deaths by Date of Occurrence What You Can Do Be vaccinated.
