Along with other government departments, HSE has been working hard to support industry in making the transition to the new UKCA regime and we are grateful for all the work you and your sector have already done to prepare.

However, we are aware that the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to impact businesses, and this has made adapting to the new regime more challenging. As a result, the government has decided to provide an additional year for businesses to adapt to the new UKCA requirements.

This means that all product sectors, including civil explosives, now have until 1 January 2023 to get ready to use the UKCA marking, with the exception of medical devices.

This is the final deadline and there will be no further extension. There is a complete list of all the sectors covered by the UKCA marking on the GOV.UK website.

Please refer to the updated guidance from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) which reflects the changes for placing all manufactured goods on the market in Great Britain.

HSE's guidance about placing civil explosives on the market has also been updated to reflect these changes.

BEIS are hosting a webinar to discuss this extension and what this means for industry on Wednesday 25 August from 2:30pm to 3pm. Feel free to join the call.

They will host a further webinar aimed at all businesses on Thursday 2 September at 2pm. This is intended to help businesses understand the changes and actions they need to take. We encourage you to share this with other interested businesses - register for the event.

We are fully committed to supporting industry adapt to the UKCA regime. Over the next 16 months, HSE will continue to engage actively with you and support your preparations for the new requirements.
