Burma: Burmese Corn Exports Increased in 2021 Despite COVID-19 and Coup

Burma's corn production is estimated at 2.57 million metric tons in both MY 2020/21 and MY 2021/22 due to high price incentives. Domestic prices have increased due to active export demand from Thailand and China. Burma's domestic consumption, however, decreased due to the severe outbreak of COVID-19 and the military coup.

China: China Based Trade Shows FY 2022

Trade shows in the United States and abroad can help U.S. companies expand their reach to potential customers around the globe. The volume and variety of trade shows in China are undergoing substantial change. Prior to 2010, most trade shows were hosted in the same city by the same operator year after year, such as the Guangzhou Trade Fair or SIAL in Shanghai. As a result of China's rapid urbanization and increase in spending power, more and more cities are vying for the tourism dollars and commercial prestige that comes from hosting major business events. Cities throughout China are opening state-of-the-art venues. At the same time, both established and newly innovated shows are including livestreaming components, due to COVID-related travel restrictions.

Japan: Livestock and Products Annual

FAS/Tokyo projects cattle stocks to increase in 2022 as MAFF support programs continue to incentivize farmers to expand production. Due to a large cross breed cattle population and a growing wagyu population, FAS/Tokyo projects 2022 slaughter numbers to be up slightly and for beef production to be around 485,000 MT. In 2021, high swine beginning stocks will push slaughter speeds higher than 2020 but low sow populations will limit 2022 beginning stocks. FAS/Tokyo forecasts 2022 swine production to increase following a rebound in the sow population. FAS/Tokyo also forecasts a two percent increase in 2022 pork production, to meet strong demand for domestic pork.
