The following GAIN reports were released on August 6, 2021. _______ On July 6, 2021 China's General Administration of Customs (GACC) implemented a notification and commitment system that allows importers (or agents) to certify to the possession of testing reports for imported dairy products, in lieu of submitting the original testing reports to GACC, when clearing customs. This announcement was effective as of July 5, 2021. On August 2, Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) published a list of 17 products proposed by the EU for geographical indications (GIs) in Japan. Products include cheese, ham, olive oil, sausage, hops, baked goods, and seasonings. MAFF will hold a public comment period for the proposed GI designations through November 2, 2021. On August 2, Japan's National Tax Agency (NTA) published a list of 11 proposed geographical indications (GIs) for wine from the European Union (EU). NTA will hold a public comment period for the proposed GI designations through November 2, 2021. On April 15, 2021, the Saudi government represented by the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) handed back the barley imports and distribution business to the private sector by selling 1.84 million metric tons (MMT) of barley through an open and competitive bidding process to six local grain traders. The move officially ended a longstanding government monopsony in barley trade that Saudi Arabia established several decades ago. For MY2020/21, Post projects total Saudi barley imports at 6.87 MMT, which is an increase of approximately three percent compared to the previous marketing year. Export prices of white and parboiled rice further decreased one percent due to weak export demand. For more information, or for an archive of all FAS GAIN reports, please visit gain.fas.usda.gov/. |
