Hello reader It seems a long time since I wrote my last newsletter a whole two weeks ago. We went off visiting friends and relatives for a few days last week, which is why I didn't manage to get anything out to you. Did you miss me? Have you managed to do any catching up with family and friends over the summer? It had been well over two years for us. I made another batch of my blackcurrant chilli jam so I could take some jars as gifts with me. Everyone thought the chilli element unusual, but effective. I've gone all Middle Eastern on you this week. Food from this part of the world is the embodiment of summer. And the flavours are just, well, so flavoursome. And there are two recipes to choose from - both plant based. My most recent post is for dukkah, which is an Egyptian toasted nutty seed and spice mix. Hazelnuts and sesame seeds are the main ingredients and it gives a delicious crunch to all sorts of dishes. Traditionally it's used as a dip for bread along with olive oil. This is a lovely way to eat it, but it's useful for so much more. Scattered over salads, roast or steamed vegetables and dips such as hummus are just a few of the ways you can use it. The previous week, I posted a refreshing Middle Eastern chickpea salad called balela. It's bursting with summer produce and although it may not feel that summery a lot of the time, it's so delicious you won't mind the weather. I have, of course, also managed to update a few older posts. As I said in my last newsletter, I'm on a continual quest to make them more informative and easier to read and to give proper printable recipe cards, pins and better images. It wasn't intentional, but they are all recipes of the indulgent variety. Something to counteract my two most recent posts, which are decidedly healthy. Please do let me know if you make any of my recipes and don't forget to star rate them. It really helps to make them more visible on search engines. Questions or feedback via comments on the blog posts are always appreciated.
Keep cooking and stay safe. Choclette x
