Hearing directly from people who draw on care is absolutely essential for us as the regulator. We've now launched our strategy, which aims to put people and communities at the heart of everything we do. We've started to share early thinking about how we better use people's experiences of care in our regulatory model. You can read more about this work and share your thoughts on our digital engagement platform, CitizenLab (you will need to log in to access this). This includes our thoughts on; - providing an inclusive service that listens to the public and meets their needs
- our draft overarching principles
- a proactive, inclusive experience data strategy
We want to make sure we bring people's voices into every aspect of our work. Now is the time to shape and influence our thinking on this and other strategy themes. Find out more about this work by watching a short video and listening to our latest podcast. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) have amended the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 so that, from 11 November 2021, all care home workers and other visiting professionals will need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they have an exemption or there is an emergency. We've published a statement which outlines our approach to a) registration, b) ongoing monitoring and inspection, and c) enforcement. The Department for Health and Social care have shared the new guidance and resources in their latest newsletter. This includes a webinar on, Guidance for COVID-19 vaccination of people working/deployed in care homes. The webinar will take place at 12:30 on Tuesday 17 August 2021 and you can sign up for free. On the 15 and 16 September we'll be exhibiting at the Dementia, Care & Nursing Home Expo and Home Care Expo at the NEC Birmingham. We'll be running a two-day inspector hub from our exhibition stand to answer all your registration and inspection questions. You'll be able to book a free appointment and chat to a member of our inspection team at a time that suits you. We'll share the link with you soon. Kate Terroni, Chief Inspector of Adult Social care will be holding a keynote at the event where she'll discuss our new strategy and how we're changing. The Cabinet Office has made changes to how the annual canvass is carried out for care homes. The annual canvass is the process Local Authorities (LA's) use to confirm the people's details on the electoral register, to allow them to have their say in elections. Traditionally, the legal process for canvassing care homes has been the same as any other property in the area. However, starting last year, LA's are using an alternative approach, working more directly with care home managers to update their records more efficiently. Over the next few months your LA will be in touch to ask for information about your residents and then to help support your residents to register to vote and participate in local and national elections. They know the challenges you are currently facing and will work with you to find a time that works. The Electoral Commission has published further information about the process, available for download below.
