Now you have learnt which Japanese ingredients can be substituted in day 2.
There is one ingredient though, that can not be substitute with any other condiments. That's right, Miso is unique to simple Japanese cooking and it can not be replaced. So if you cannot buy it, what shall we do?
Make it from scratch!
You may think it is difficult to make at home because of miso's sophisticated flavour but it is easy and simple. No one has ever failed to make it. It only requires a bit of your patience as it takes a minimum of 3 months to ferment.
Let's make Miso from scratch π
