NATO Group Convenes in Dayton

Delegates from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's 32 member states are meeting in Dayton this week for the alliance's spring session, marking the 30th anniversary of the Dayton peace accords ending the Bosnian War.

The last time the NATO Parliamentary Assembly convened in the U.S. was in 2003 in Orlando, Florida.

European defense spending is expected to be a key topic of discussion.

Ban Sought on Crowdfunding for Crime Suspects

State Attorney General Dave Yost urged GiveSendGo to remove a campaign that has raised more than $50,000 for Rodney Hinton Jr., who is charged with killing a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy after his son was fatally shot by police.

Yost also called for an expansion of Ohio's "Son of Sam" law to prohibit crowdfunding for individuals accused of violent crimes. While current state law prohibits profiting from criminal acts, it does not cover online fundraising efforts.

Yost noted that the donation page does not specify whether funds will be used for Hinton's legal defense. Some comments on the fundraiser appear to support Hinton's alleged actions.

Cemetery Visitors Asked to Report Any Damage

State officials are encouraging Memorial Day cemetery visitors to report any vandalism or maintenance issues they observe, first to cemetery management and then, if left unresolved, through an official complaint form.

In Warren, police are investigating after 13 gravestones were overturned and about three dozen veterans' flags and plastic vases were broken at Oakwood Cemetery. Photos are available here.

The state Department of Commerce Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing offers more than $100,000 annually in grants to help nonprofits maintain and repair cemeteries.
