 | Saturday, May 24, 2025 | | Good Morning! On this day in 1931, Miami Daily News agricultural editor Richard L. Rinc wrote an article warning people of a man walking around Miami spinning a tale incredibly close to what would become the plot for Planet of the Apes. Would you drive slower if the speed limit was painted right on the road? A new study on Florida highways is putting that idea to the test. Find out more in Around Florida. Later today, we'll be sending you a special email featuring our partner, Arthrozene, offering advice to older folks who want to stay active despite joint pain. Just five seconds a day can help improve a condition that scientists call "joint drought." We hope you find their offer valuable! "As we witnessed last year with significant inland flooding from hurricanes Helene and Debby, the impacts of hurricanes can reach far beyond coastal communities," said Acting NOAA Administrator Laura Grimm. NOAA officials predict 13 to 19 named storms in the Atlantic this year. Storms receive names once they reach sustained winds of at least 39 mph. Hurricane season typically begins June 1 and peaks in August and September. Officials encourage having a hurricane kit with emergency supplies and planning how to secure your home if needed. | DeSantis Signs Law Protecting State Parks Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Thursday that banned development in state parks, including pickleball courts, golf courses, and resort-like lodges. "The passage of this bill ensures that our state parks are protected forever. This is democracy at work. The voices of the people have been heard," said State Senator Gayle Harrell (R-Stuart). Previous development plans had drawn backlash last summer, with hundreds of protestors carrying signs with slogans like "Save, Don't Pave" and "Parks Over Profit." The new law goes into effect July 1. | Project Beep Coming to Merritt Island A mysterious aerospace company, identified only as Project Beep, plans to spend $247 million on a development near NASA's Kennedy Space Center. After signing a 30-year lease, Project Beep would establish aerospace manufacturing, research and development, warehousing, and administrative facilities on 25 acres at the multi-tenant Exploration Park on northern Merritt Island. If approved, the development would build on Brevard County's booming aerospace growth, which saw sector employment nearly double from 7,847 to 14,828 between 2017 and 2023. Project Beep is expected to add around 1,000 high-paying jobs. | | Flying together with our sponsor Is your neck drooping, hair dry and flaky or maybe your nails are getting brittle? These are WARNING signs that you're collagen-deficient, and it's going to get worse if you don't do something about it. Believe it or not, collagen deficiency strikes nearly everyone over the age of 30. Because after 30, you start losing 1% of collagen per year. And that's no good because…the fact is, collagen is the glue that holds your body together. Without it your body literally starts falling apart (FAST!). So if you have those signs, it's time to act now, not later. A lot of people turn to expensive collagen powders for help. Only problem? They're pretty useless, for a reason… Because they are INCOMPLETE. They are missing 4 of the 5 MOST important types of collagen. These 5 "super collagens" work TOGETHER to support glowing skin, gorgeous hair and thick, healthy nails. | | | ➤ Gainesville: A memorial palm tree for a student murdered in 1990 was replaced after the original tree tested positive for lethal bronzing and was confirmed to have died.
