Good Morning! On this day in 1955, educator Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune died at age 79. Bethune is considered one of Daytona Beach's most important and influential residents.

Fire Temporarily Closes Airport

The Jacksonville International Airport was closed after a fire broke out in one of its parking garages midday Friday. The airport reopened later that afternoon, but travelers can still expect flight delays and limited parking.

"We were trying to get a (rental) car, and we had the keys, and then they were yelling at us to evacuate, and we had to run across to the terminal," Cassy LaRussa, a witness to the incident, said.

The fire started on the second floor of the hourly parking garage, burning around 50 vehicles and collapsing part of the second and third floors.

The hourly and daily garages, which remain closed, account for around 2,000 parking spots and were 95% full at the time of the fire. The airport has set up a temporary car return for rental cars.

FAMU Names President-Elect

Marva Johnson was named Florida A&M University's next president at a board meeting in Tallahassee on Friday. Johnson has experience in corporate lobbying through her current role with Charter Communications.

However, the decision was controversial, with Board Chair Kristin Harper saying after the vote, "This is so interesting, isn't it? This could be a Lifetime movie!"

Some FAMU students and alumni questioned Johnson's lack of experience with higher education and her political connections to Gov. Ron DeSantis, with one petition against her gaining 12,000 signatures.

Proponents of the appointment hope Johnson's lobbying experience will help her bring additional funding to the university.

Bahama Breeze Closes Five Florida Locations

Bahama Breeze, headquartered in Orlando, closed 15 restaurants this week, five of them in Florida.

Restaurants in Gainesville, Naples, Daytona Beach, Sunrise, and Oakland Park were impacted.

The Gainesville Bahama Breeze had a sign reading, "This location is permanently closed. Please visit a nearby sister location," suggesting visits to Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse, also owned by Darden Restaurants, instead.

These closures represented over one third of the Caribbean-inspired chain's restaurants, with only 29 restaurants remaining open. Affected employees will be offered jobs at nearby restaurants or given severance.
