 | Friday, April 4, 2025 | | Good Morning! On this day in 1873, President Ulysses S. Grant appointed Samuel Hitt Elbert to be the sixth Governor of the Colorado Territory. One of Elbert's first acts as governor was tending to the arrival of President Grant, who in the summer of that year became the first president to visit Colorado. Today is opening day at Coors Field, marking the Rockies' 33rd home opener since their debut season in 1993. If that has you feeling nostalgic, take a moment to relive the iconic moment Dinger 'hatched' at Mile High Stadium more than three decades ago. | Denver Mayor Unveils Downtown Safety Plan Mayor Mike Johnston has announced a new plan to increase safety in downtown Denver, where concerns about crime have shaken public confidence and hurt local businesses. A dedicated 10-officer unit will now patrol downtown on foot, with additional officers on bike, and motorcycle. The city will also bring back horse-mounted patrols and install a police kiosk on the 16th Street Mall. In addition to boosted police presence, the city center will benefit from bike paramedics, mental health and addiction experts, and five extra private security officers. The changes coincide with Coors Field's opening day today and 16th Street Mall's partial reopening next month. While violent crime is trending down, Police Chief Ron Thomas cited a "significant spike" in early 2025 that underscored the need for action. | Opponents Demand Gun Bill Veto Several groups are pressuring Gov. Jared Polis to veto Senate Bill 003, which passed the Senate last Friday and seeks to ban rapid-fire conversion devices, impose new regulations on semiautomatic firearms, and mandate safety training for certain gun purchases. Yesterday, the Colorado State Shooting Association delivered over 25,000 signatures demanding a veto of the bill. Gun rights advocates have called the measure an attack on Second Amendment rights and an undue burden on gun owners. Republican lawmakers echoed those concerns in a letter to the Democratic governor, claiming the measure "blatantly infringes" on Second Amendment rights. Though the bill was sent to Polis' desk last week, he has yet to sign it into law. If enacted, it would take effect on August 1, 2026. | Colorado Lands Six James Beard Finalists Six Colorado chefs, pastry chefs, restaurants, and cocktail professionals have been named finalists in the 2025 James Beard Awards. In January, 14 contenders from the state were named semifinalists. Of those, six finalists were selected, representing nominees in Denver, Boulder, Parker, and Grand Junction. See the list here. The Michelin-starred Frasca Food and Wine, which boasts 11 past nominations, is up for Outstanding Restaurant. Penelope Wong, a second-time finalist, is nominated for Best Chef: Mountain Region. The winners of this year's awards will be announced on June 16 in a ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. | |
Flying together with our sponsor AI Is Solving A 100+ Year-Old Medical Problem This is easily one of modern medicine's greatest failures: Heart disease has been the leading cause of death worldwide since 1921. The root of the problem? There is no effective way to detect it in frontline healthcare. Electrocardiograms (ECGs) are in desperate need of an update. They're the main frontline tool used to detect heart disease, yet they won't detect most cases until it's too late. After 100+ years, one company is finally aiming to solve this with AI. HeartSciences has a once-in-a-century opportunity to be a leader in AI-enhanced ECGs. Led by executives with strong track records and technology developed with Mount Sinai Hospital and Rutgers Hospital, among others, their goal is to detect more heart conditions—earlier, faster, and more affordably than ever before. Over 1 billion ECGs are performed every year, creating a $30B+ global market opportunity for HeartSciences. What's more, they're planning to make the most of it with a recurring revenue business model—selling both AI-ECG equipment as well as subscriptions to their cloud software. And now, investors like you have the chance to invest now at a crucial stage of growth. While the company is already traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker HSCS, participating in their current round is a chance to get up to two shares by purchasing "units" for more value. Here's what each unit offers: That's 2 shares of equity potential—at an extremely momentous time for HeartSciences as they are targeting FDA clearance in 2025. Invest now in HeartSciences as they approach a major inflection point in their company's growth. Learn more about how you can become a shareholder here. Flying together with our sponsor Fighting the Leading Cause of Death with AI Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide because it's so hard to detect until it's too late. HeartSciences is working to make early frontline detection easier with AI. Traditional electrocardiograms (ECGs) are decades-old technology and generally only detect rhythm-related issues, like arrhythmia or AFib. By then, a patient often has late-stage heart disease. With HeartSciences' AI and cloud-based ECG platform, healthcare providers will be able to unlock hidden signs of heart disease earlier. Not only does this have the potential to save countless lives, but over 100 million ECGs are performed annually in the U.S. alone (~1B worldwide), creating a huge market opportunity for HeartSciences. Learn how you can participate in a $30B ECG market opportunity and invest in HeartSciences as they drive the future of healthcare.
