Good Morning! On this day in 1758, Spanish military captain Luís Antonio Menchaca was awarded nearly 50,000 acres of land in present-day Karnes and Wilson counties, marking the first recorded private land grant in Texas. The 1779 census showed Menchaca was the richest person in the province.

Texas House Approves $337 Billion Budget

The Texas House of Representatives passed a two-year $337 billion budget, concluding the final vote at 3 a.m. Friday morning after nearly 13 hours of debate.

Contributing to the marathon session were about 400 pre-filed amendments from both Democrats and Republicans, only 35 of which were approved.

A large portion of the budget—accounting for about 15% of the plan—is dedicated to property tax relief, with other notable items including $1 billion for parent-directed education savings accounts, $6.5 billion for border security, and $30 billion for road projects.

The Senate-crafted budget, which passed the House on a vote of 118-26, now goes behind closed doors for members of both chambers to hash out differences before a final submission to Governor Abbott.

Trump: Mexico Owes Water to Texas Farmers

President Donald Trump accused Mexico of stealing water from Texas farmers on Thursday, threatening tariffs and sanctions if Mexico remains in violation of a 1944 water treaty.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded to the accusation Friday, announcing that Mexico will immediately deliver water to Texas farmers and acknowledging shortfalls in water delivery to the U.S.

Last month, President Trump halted a water shipment to Tijuana, citing violations to the 1944 treaty, adding on Thursday that Mexico "owes Texas 1.3 million acre-feet of water."

The treaty obligates Mexico to send 1.75 million acre-feet of water to the U.S. from the Rio Grande every five years, while the U.S. sends 1.5 million acre-feet to Mexico annually from the Colorado River.

Texas Shows Out in South's Best Awards

Texas is well represented in Southern Living's annual South's Best Awards, including a repeat designation as "the most legendary margaritas in Texas" for Joe T. Garcia's in Fort Worth.

Austin and San Antonio both made the cut for the magazine's best southern cities, while Rockport and Port Aransas took spots in the South's 50 best beach towns.
