Kathleen Sgamma, a Colorado oil and gas advocate, has withdrawn her nomination to run the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), a Senate committee announced yesterday.

President Trump nominated Sgamma in February. As head of the Denver-based Western Energy Alliance and an author of Project 2025, she's been a vocal critic of Biden-era fossil fuel regulations.

Earlier this week, an investigative watchdog group published a memo sent by Sgamma on Jan. 7, 2021, in which she criticized Trump's role in the Capitol protests.

Sgamma didn't offer a reason for her withdrawal. In a statement to the White House, she said she'll continue to support Trump's energy agenda.

Article Icon 1Protestors Sue Auraria Campus Police

Eight protestors arrested at Denver's Auraria Campus last year have filed a lawsuit against campus police, alleging a violation of First Amendment rights.

The plaintiffs were part of a pro-Palestinian protest opposing Israel's actions in Gaza. Campus officials say the protestors violated an overnight camping ban.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday claims the protest complied with campus policies and argues that the arrests were an unlawful attempt to silence free speech.

The city declined to press charges against many of the 40 individuals arrested. Of the eight plaintiffs, charges against four were dismissed.

Article Icon 1Hyperloop Expands to Colorado Springs

Swisspod, an international hyperloop company pioneering high-speed transportation, plans to build a new assembly facility in Colorado Springs.

The hyperloop system uses tubes and pressurized vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 600 miles per hour. If completed, the system could potentially transport people from Pueblo to Denver in under 15 minutes.

Last year, Swisspod began building a hyperloop testing site in Pueblo, said to be the world's largest. The Colorado Springs factory will develop tracks and pods to be tested at Pueblo's facility.

Swisspod expects the facility to create over 100 jobs at an average salary of $68,000. Though there's no timeline for the plant's completion, they expect to begin testing at the Pueblo track in late 2025.
