I know hindsight is 20/20, but if I could start my health and fitness journey over again, this is what I'd do differently:
1. Take captive the negative thoughts and lies in my head and replace them with truth.
"Don't eat that cookie, you already had one today."
"The scale is up today. You should exercise an extra 10 minutes."
"I hope we don't go out for Mexican; I can't control myself with all those chips!"
50% of your success is what you do. The other 50% is what you think. The thoughts you tell yourself matter!
2. Stop letting the scale dictate my happiness.
My body is made up of bones, blood, muscle, fat, organs, eyeballs… it all weighs something! It's VERY difficult to gain one pound of fat overnight. Plus, the scale is only one tool to measure, and to be honest, it's the least important.
3. Quit looking for quick fixes.
Slim Fast, Herbalife, Weight Watchers, Ephedra, eliminating carbs and sugar… I've tried them all and they all have one thing in common: they don't work long-term.
When I stopped looking for shortcuts, I finally lost the weight AND kept it off.
