The number of confirmed measles cases continues to rise in the West Texas outbreak, now up to 309 in the state, according to a new report released Friday.

Cases in New Mexico bring the total to 351 confirmed cases from the outbreak, with 40 hospitalizations in Texas.

As the political debate over vaccines swirls around the outbreak, the Texas parents whose child died of the disease last month have stated that they stand by their decision not to vaccinate their children.

With Friday's report, the number of measles cases in Texas from the outbreak now surpasses the total number of reported cases nationwide in 2024.

Forecasts for Texas' weekend weather indicate the stretch of hazardous conditions over the last several weeks may continue.

With warmer weather and wind yesterday and today, critical fire threats are likely in multiple areas across the state.

After the warmth, a cold front is expected to sweep through North Texas on Sunday, potentially bringing hail and severe storms along with it.

Next week could finally bring much-needed rain to Texas after a dry March.
