Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Attorney General, was questioned by Democrats on Wednesday regarding her ability to lead the Department of Justice while working for a president who previously stated he would pursue his political adversaries.

Bondi repeatedly referred to the multiple investigations into Trump, stating that the DOJ had been weaponized and vowing to end politicization at the department.

Later on Wednesday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump's pick to lead the State Department as Secretary of State, called China "the most potent and dangerous near-peer adversary this nation has ever confronted" during his confirmation hearing.

The hearing occurred as Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire and hostage release agreement, with Rubio commenting that all those involved "deserve credit for the deal."

Article Icon 1Feds Propose Keeping Florida's Manatees Listed as 'Threatened'

Federal wildlife officials released a proposal to maintain Florida manatees' classification as a threatened species while reclassifying Antillean manatees, found in Puerto Rico, as endangered.

In 2017, Florida manatees were reclassified from endangered to threatened status. Environmentalists have since argued that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service should restore Florida manatees to endangered status due to ongoing threats to their population.

A mass starvation event occurred in 2021 and 2022, which led to a record number of Florida's manatees dying. Statewide, 565 manatees died last year, a number experts call average.

Due to the polar vortex currently hitting the state and country, manatees are congregating in warm waters near power plants, a common survival behavior during cold weather.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched on Wednesday from Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, carrying FireFly Aerospace's Blue Ghost lunar lander and ispace's second lunar lander, RESILIENCE. The two private spacecraft are now on their way to attempting separate moon landings.

Blue Ghost's $93.3 million mission, titled "Ghost Riders in the Sky," comes as NASA plans to send humans back to the moon within this decade.

"The research we gather will help unlock future space exploration while also benefiting life on Earth, with new insights into how space weather and other cosmic forces affect our planet," said FireFly CEO Jason Kim.

RESILIENCE is set to arrive at the moon's surface in four to five months at Mare Frigoris, the Sea of Cold. Blue Ghost is expected to land in about 45 days at the center of Mare Crisium, the Sea of Crisis.
