| NC Senate Calls for U.S. Congress Term Limits North Carolina Senators passed a resolution Monday calling for an Article V convention of the states to impose term limits on members of the U.S. Congress. North Carolina’s House approved the resolution in 2023. The bill passed 29-20 and made North Carolina the ninth state to agree to a Constitutional amendment limiting term limits. Thirty-four states must pass the resolution for a convention of the states to take place. The effort, led by 31 N.C. Representatives and 26 N.C. Senators, is part of a national, nonpartisan movement sponsored by Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Term Limits, which was established in the early 1990s and advocates for term limits at all government levels. See a map of states that have passed the amendment here. | Supreme Court Candidate Asks for Second Recount Republican State Supreme Court candidate Judge Jefferson Griffin has asked elections officials to conduct a second recount in his race against incumbent Democrat Justice Allison Riggs, who leads him by fewer than 800 votes. The North Carolina Board of Elections conducted a random drawing Tuesday morning to select which precincts will be included in the partial hand-to-eye recount. It could trigger a full statewide hand recount if the results differ significantly from the machine count. Griffin also recently charged that some election boards erroneously counted ballots cast by convicted felons, people who didn’t complete registrations, or people who died before Election Day. Those claims, separate from the recount, could lead to a legal battle that could potentially decide the race’s outcome. | NC’s Top Christmas Towns North Carolina claims its share of Christmas towns, with McAdenville even securing the nickname “Christmas Town USA.” Its yearly celebration kicked off Monday with a tree lighting and dozens of houses decked out with Christmas lights that shine from 5:30 to 10 p.m. through Dec. 26.
