Article Icon 1Roberson Misses House Hearing

Death row inmate Robert Roberson did not testify at a Texas House committee hearing Friday as expected, following Attorney Gen. Ken Paxton's motion to block Roberson's testimony.

Roberson was set to testify regarding Texas' "junk science" law related to the 2002 shaken-baby syndrome murder conviction of his daughter, but instead Josh Burns, a man falsely accused of shaking a child in 2015, spoke on Roberson's behalf.

Paxton claimed he acted to prevent "a procedurally deficient and overly burdensome subpoena" from allowing Roberson to testify.

Roberson's subpoena to appear before the committee halted his originally-scheduled execution on October 17, hours before it was carried out.

Austin-based automaker Tesla has recalled nearly 700,000 of its electric vehicles due to an issue with tire pressure warning lights.

The recall affects Tesla's Cybertruck, Model 3, and Model Y vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the warning light "may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn the driver of low tire pressure."

This is latest in a series of recalls since 2023 for Tesla, with several already aimed at its highly-anticipated Cybertruck.

The Texas Longhorns and SMU Mustangs play in the opening round of the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff today, as SMU takes on Penn State on the road at 11:00 a.m. CT and Texas hosts Clemson at 3:00 p.m. CT.

Both teams seek to rebound from losses in their respective conference championship games two weeks ago, with a quarterfinal berth on the line.

With a win, Texas would advance to the Peach Bowl to play Arizona State, and SMU would face Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. (See Bracket)

Star Longhorn wide receiver Isaiah Bond is not expected to play today, but Texas remains a 12-point favorite over Clemson, while SMU is an 8.5-point underdog in their matchup.
