House Republicans had reached an agreement on a new spending bill late Thursday, attempting to avoid a government shutdown after President-elect Donald Trump said he opposed the original bipartisan agreement. The revised 116-page bill—a so-called "Plan B"—was much shorter than the previous 1,500-page proposal. It provided three months of funding to keep the government running, suspended the debt limit until 2027, replenished disaster relief, and blocked a pay increase for lawmakers. The original agreement was re-done by the GOP at the urging not only of Trump but also of DOGE chief Elon Musk, who used social media to call attention to controversial provisions.
Congress has until midnight tonight to pass a spending bill or close down parts of the government. | Georgia DA Fani Willis Removed from Trump Case A Georgia appeals court Thursday disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from leading the criminal election interference case against President-elect Donald Trump and others. The court declined to dismiss Trump's indictment, keeping the charges in place for now, but noted that Willis's relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade created a significant appearance of impropriety, leading to Willis's disqualification. This marks Trump's latest legal victory, following the dismissal of two previous federal cases since his election win. The Georgia case was the only remaining criminal trial scheduled to proceed. | Teamsters Strike Amazon Ahead of Holidays Amazon workers at seven facilities nationwide launched what the Teamsters called their largest-ever strike against the company at 6 a.m. Thursday, after Amazon missed the union's deadline for contract negotiations. The strikes involve facilities in Southern California, New York City, Atlanta, and Skokie, Illinois, with the Teamsters claiming to represent nearly 10,000 workers at 10 Amazon facilities. Amazon employs a total of 800,000 workers at its warehouses. While Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel disputed this claim, saying the union doesn't represent Amazon employees and drivers, the Teamsters argue that Amazon should recognize delivery drivers as employees rather than contractors. The strike strategically targets the holiday shopping rush though Amazon says it doesn't expect any operational impacts.
